Animal Acupuncture

Animal acupuncture is a gentle, evidence-based therapy that involves placing very fine needles into specific points on the body to support healing, reduce pain and improve overall function. These points are carefully selected to stimulate the nervous system, encourage circulation, and activate the body’s natural healing responses.

It has been used for thousands of years and is now widely integrated into modern veterinary care—particularly in rehabilitation and chronic pain management. Today, it is commonly used alongside conventional treatments to provide a more holistic, multimodal approach to your pet’s care, helping to improve comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life.

What's it all about?
All of your questions answered below!

How does it work?

Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system, improving blood flow and encouraging the body’s natural healing processes. It can help to:

  • Reduce pain and inflammation

  • Improve mobility and joint function

  • Support nerve recovery

  • Relax tight or overworked muscles

  • Enhance overall wellbeing

Who is it for?

Acupuncture is commonly used alongside other treatments for:

  • Arthritis and chronic pain

  • Orthopaedic injuries (including post-surgery recovery)

  • Neurological conditions (e.g. IVDD, nerve damage)

  • Muscle tension and soft tissue injuries

  • Mobility issues in older pets

It can also be used as part of a broader rehabilitation plan to support long-term outcomes.

Who runs the sessions?

Sessions are run by Peta, who has always had a strong passion for animal care, with hands-on experience spanning horses, small animals and veterinary practice. Her background includes working in a veterinary nursing role in the Pilbara, where she gained experience both in-clinic and on remote stations.

Peta has since completed a Diploma of Animal Acupuncture through the International College of Equine and Canine Therapies (Australia), allowing her to take a holistic, evidence-informed approach to supporting animal health and wellbeing. She also has training in massage and first aid, which initially sparked her interest in rehabilitation and hands-on therapies.

Her focus is on providing gentle, compassionate care to help animals feel more comfortable, improve mobility and enhance their overall quality of life.

What does a session look like?

Each session is tailored to your pet and their individual needs.

  • A thorough assessment is performed

  • Fine, sterile needles are placed in specific points

  • Needles are typically left in place for 10–20 minutes

  • Most pets relax during treatment—some even fall asleep

Some animals may feel immediate relief, while others improve gradually over a series of sessions.

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine—much smaller than a standard injection needle.
Most pets tolerate treatment very well. You might see a brief reaction when a needle is placed, but this usually settles quickly. Many animals become calm and relaxed during their session.

Is it safe?

Yes—when performed by a trained professional, acupuncture is very safe.
All needles are sterile and single-use, and treatments are tailored to ensure your pet’s comfort at all times.

How much do sessions cost?

Acupuncture sessions run for approximately 1 hour and are priced to give your pet the best care and value:

  • $90 per session.

Can it be used in conjunction with other therapies?

Absolutely. Acupuncture works best as part of a multimodal approach and can be combined with:

  • Hydrotherapy

  • Laser therapy

  • Massage and manual therapies

  • Exercise and conditioning programs (like our Paws in Motion classes)
