Paws In Motion: Canine Conditioning

Canine Conditioning is a form of low-impact, targeted exercise designed to improve your dog’s strength, balance, flexibility, and body awareness. Similar to Pilates for people, it focuses on controlled, purposeful movements that engage core muscles, support joint health, and enhance overall mobility. These exercises are ideal for dogs of all ages and abilities — from young, active dogs needing coordination and injury prevention, to senior or recovering dogs looking to regain strength safely. Conditioning supports not just physical health, but also mental focus and the human–dog bond, making it a rewarding and enriching activity for both ends of the leash.

What's it all about?
All of your questions answered below!

Who are the classes for?

Our Paws in Motion classes are designed for every dog and every owner. They’re ideal for dogs recovering from injury or managing arthritis, as well as senior dogs who are starting to slow down or lose strength. Active dogs benefit by building core stability to help prevent injury, while younger dogs gain control, coordination, and confidence through structured movement. These sessions are also perfect for owners looking to deepen their bond with their dog or anyone simply wanting to provide a stimulating, purposeful activity that supports their dog’s long-term health and happiness. To ensure individual attention and a calm, effective environment, each class is limited to a maximum of five dogs.

What are the classes not?

Our classes are not obedience or behaviour training — we won’t be working on sit, stay, or recall commands. Instead, the focus is on physical conditioning through slow, controlled exercises that build strength, stability, and body awareness. They’re also not high-intensity or off-leash play sessions. While your dog will be moving and challenged, the environment is calm and structured, with all dogs on-leash and under close supervision. The goal is mindful movement, not exhaustion or excitement. These classes are ideal for dogs that need a safe, supportive space to work on their physical health without the pressure of performing or interacting with other dogs.

Who are the classes run by?

Run by experienced trainer Zoe and veterinary nurse Natalie, these classes combine expert knowledge in canine fitness and health care to provide the best support for your dog. Together, they design individualised movement plans tailored specifically to your dog’s unique needs, whether that’s rehabilitation after injury, managing arthritis, or simply improving overall strength and coordination. Their hands-on approach ensures that every dog receives personalised attention and safe, effective exercises that promote long-term health, mobility, and wellbeing. With Zoe and Natalie’s guidance, you and your dog will build confidence, improve fitness, and enjoy a stronger, more connected partnership.

When and where are the classes held?

Our classes are held at the REACH facility, located at 49 Jindalee Road, Port Macquarie. While it’s a spacious, practical warehouse setting, it provides a safe and comfortable environment for your dog’s conditioning sessions. The open layout allows plenty of room for movement and personalised attention in small group classes, making it an ideal space for focused, effective training.

Classes currently run on Fridays at 2pm and 3pm, and Saturdays at 10am and 11am, with additional sessions to be added as demand grows.

Our team ensures each session is tailored to your dog’s needs in this relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There is ample on-site parking available right at the door, making drop-off and pick-up easy. We welcome dogs of all breeds and sizes, but ask that they are comfortable working in close proximity to other dogs on lead. If your dog is anxious or reactive, please get in touch — we may recommend a private session to start.

How long do the classes go for?

Our classes are carefully designed to last 30 minutes, the ideal length to keep your dog fully focused and engaged throughout the session. This duration helps prevent your dog from becoming bored or restless, while also ensuring they don’t get too tired or overexerted. By keeping sessions concise and purposeful, we can maximise the benefits of each exercise, making sure your dog enjoys the class and gains the most from every movement.

What do you need to bring?

Please arrive with your dog on a secure lead and make sure they’ve had a chance to toilet before the session — this helps keep the space clean and ensures your dog is comfortable and focused. Bring along some high-value treats that your dog absolutely loves — we recommend Prime100 roll cut into small 1cm cubes as the ideal training reward. Dry kibble or standard store-bought treats often aren’t motivating enough for the types of exercises we’ll be doing. Most importantly, bring a sense of adventure and a positive attitude — we’re here to have fun, build confidence, and help your dog move and feel their best in a safe, friendly environment!

How much do the classes cost?

Each 30-minute class is $40, with no ongoing commitment required — perfect for those wanting to try it out or attend casually. For those looking to attend more regularly, we offer discounted class passes: a 5-class pass for $175 and a 10-class pass for $300. These passes offer great value and flexibility, allowing you to use them at your own pace while giving your dog the consistency and benefits of ongoing conditioning. Passes can be shared between multiple dogs from the same household and have a 6-month expiry.
